Not only can fossils help us educate ourselves, but they are also fantastic decorative options for your home. Whether you’re celebrating your love of the prehistoric or are keen to add interesting and quirky touches to different areas of the house, fossils are perfect for decoration.
Our guide is here to help you find inspiration for displaying your favourite fossils throughout the home while providing advice on keeping them clean and pristine, just like the rest of your ornaments.

How to clean and preserve display fossils
Luckily, maintaining your fossils at home won’t involve anything too intricate, as all fossils will have been delicately pre-treated for display purposes before you bought them. If you want to learn more about the treatment process, you can watch our thorough YouTube guide on fossil preparation.
However, even the most well-prepared fossils can still be fragile and sensitive, so it’s important to know how to properly clean them to keep them looking their best without causing unwanted damage.
Pre-prepared fossils will likely already be free of unsightly and potentially dangerous dust particles, so the only dust you’ll be dealing with will be surface-level. Approach cleaning pre-prepared fossils like you would with any other fragile ornament. Handle with great care and lightly go over the item with a clean dusting cloth, ensuring not to irritate the surface. Please avoid using water when cleaning your fossils.
Best places to display fossils at home
Utilising fascinating fossils to decorate your home helps bring a sense of personality, character and thoughtfulness that may once have been absent from your space. As a reminder of our planet’s beauty and diversity, fossils are also great conversation starters when showing guests around the home.
To give you a helping hand on using fossils as decorations at home, we’ve outlined the key rooms and areas to focus on and which fossils help boost the atmosphere and complement your existing furniture and ornaments.
Living Room
The social centre of your home is the perfect place to decorate with intriguing and thought-provoking fossils. Whether you’re enamoured by the larger-than-life dinosaurs that roamed the Earth prior to the asteroid or are keen to learn more about the resilience of ammonites, they can each make a wonderful addition to the room.
Place a fossil in the centre of a coffee table to create a wonderful symmetrical look with a unique focus point. If you have multiple fossils you’re excited to show off, placing them on either side of your television on the TV stand is a great way to get eyes on them.
Home Office
A familiar and comfortable environment is essential while working from home or completing important paperwork. Our smaller fossils can act as wonderful desk tidies to bring a personal touch to your desk and make those quarterly reports go that bit quicker.
Depending on the size and existing wall frames in your home office, larger fossils can be framed and hung on the wall. Our fossils all come with detailed information about the species, size, age and location of the relevant creatures that can be displayed with the fossil for an elegant and educational decor piece.
Child’s bedroom
A love and interest in the prehistoric often starts in childhood, and you can help your kids learn more about the world before their time with fossils. They can keep fossils by their bed along with their dinosaur toys and Jurassic Park DVDs!
Help foster the natural curiosity and intrigue that has followed so many of us into adulthood with fossil gifts that scratch the dino itch while providing invaluable education that your kids can excitedly share with their friends and teachers.
Who knows, the fossil in their room may inspire your child to be the world’s next great palaeontologist!
Hallways
A subtle yet stylish touch that can be achieved with any of our items, from reptiles to shark teeth, is lining mantlepieces or walls in your hallway with slick and beautifully pre-prepared fossils.
Place alongside existing ornaments or dedicate the space to knowledge and history. Whichever way you choose to implement fossils in your hallway, we know it will be a hit with guests.
Inspiration for fossil rooms
