A pallasite is the perfect item for any natural history enthusiast and budding young astrologists looking to learn more about the beautiful meteorites that have graced our planet over hundreds of thousands of years. Our collection features stunning Sericho pallasites discovered in Kenya in 2016. Local villagers had been aware of the meteorites for a while but weren’t officially made public until the finders tracked down a 45km strewn field in Isolo County. Since the initial discovery, several thousand kilograms of Sericho pallasite have been recovered.
Are pallasites magnetic?
Apart from their uniquely beautiful composition, one of the most interesting things about pallasite meteorites is that some fragments are magnetic. Due to the iron-nickel matrix, plenty of pallasites are strongly attracted to magnets. The magnetic strength does vary from pallasite to pallasite, but you can find items that will readily stick to magnets. While this can be seen as a simple quirk, in reality, it’s another way these fascinating pieces differentiate from other meteorites.
