Moldavite’s bright green colour is its most distinguishing feature, making it an incredibly attractive addition to many collectors. The cause of this colour comes from its aluminium and iron oxide impurities. The iron present in the silica-rich glass allows light to be absorbed into the tektite and provides the stunning green synonymous with moldavite. If you’re looking for an eye-catching gift to add to your collection, look no further than this fascinating geological marvel that has stood the test of time.

How is moldavite formed?

Moldavite was formed by a meteorite impact in southern Germany approximately 15 million years ago. The meteor included various materials, including moldavite, which was strewn across areas of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic over time. In 1786, Dr. Josef Mayer first mentioned moldavite on record after they were found in the Vltava River in the Czech Republic. However, it wasn’t until later that the name moldavite was coined. It was named after the Bohemian city where the discoverer lived.
Copyright 2026 Natural Wonders ltdenFri, 09 Oct 2026 20:03:22 +0100Fri, 09 Oct 2026 20:03:22 +0100Fri, 09 Oct 2026 20:03:20 +0100>0.3g Moldavite Meteorite Ejector (Tektite) (SKU M1377)
